Zebbug Rovers  Held By The Tigers 

     Saturday 21st February, Gozo Stadium, 3.00pm – Easyline 1st Division GFA League.    Zebbug Rovers were held draw by Xewkija Tigers FC.  Both teams need points for different scopes.  Zebbug would have opened a six point lead on Champions Nadur with a win.  Three points for Xewkija woul lift them to one point behind Ghajnsielem and Kercem and leave Sannat and Hotspurs in distance behind them.  Both teams may opt to say that they have lost two precious points and not a point won but who knows, coming May this point might be vital for both of them.  R Referees of the match were Mr Anton Zammit, Mr Gordon Barbara and Mr Mario Apap.

    Xewkija opened this match on the offensive with Zebbug controlling in their half pitch.  Jason Portelli shot was saved by Xuereb in the early minutes of the game.  Than, Farrugia’s header from a corner was saved again by Xuereb.  On the other end Eboh shot wide.  On the 20th minute Zebbug took the lead.  Sylvan Galea passed the ball to Eboh, back passed to Leandro, who fired a beautiful shot to the angle were Agius could not reach.  Zebbug Rovers could have extended their lead but Agius saved well on Cardona few seconds later.  On the 24th minute Xewkija leveled the score.  Portelli passed to Camilleri whose shot was partially saved by Xuereb and Farrugia netted in without any difficulty.

     Mario Azzopardi of Zebbug Rovers was shown the red card on the 36th minute.  Both sides had some chances but the score remained 1-1 till the break. Although playing with one man less, Zebbug were the better side in the opening of the second half.  Tauli’s free kick went just wide.  On the other side Xuereb had to save on Camilleri.  Agius was called in action to save on Tauli while the same player hit the bar on the 17th minute.  Agius saved again on Magrin on the 35th minute.  Rais shot was saved by defender Magrin.  Xewkija were the team looking for the three points in the last minutes of the game but the result was untouched although Xuereb had to save Benneth’s free kick.
