Our Rovers defeated for the first time
Our Rovers suffered their first defeat of the season against our Sannat Lions in their second round match of the G.F.A Easyline League at the Gozo Stadium.Zebbug, knowing the previous match result which meant that they will not be the leaders if they do not win, therefore under pressure for the three points, were the only team to create chances in the first 45 minutes. Sannat disappointed during this half and never were a threat to Xuereb.
On the 12th minute Zebbug went very close when Alex Trambu strong shot was punched by Galea and from rebound Eboh’s shot was saved again by Galea. Four minutes later Leandro’s free kick went over the bar. Galea saved again on Trambu. On the 20th minute Leandro passed the ball to Eboh who concluded in the net to give Zebbug the lead. Zebbug continued to play better and seven minutes later they doubled the score. Tuali was fast enough and shot a direct free kick when Sannat defense was still organizing itself with Galea not ready to save.
The goal was allowed by the referee although Sannat players protested for his decision. Sannat were shocked with this goal and Zebbug controlled without much difficulty. The Lions had their first shot on the 43rd minute by Mark Formosa. Zebbug scored again in the opening minutes of the second half, but the goal was disallowed for a foul by Eboh. This might have been the turning point of the match. On the 8th minute Gotthard Conti from a direct corner got one back for Sannat. The Rovers were confused and just four minutes later Sannat leveled. Conti received a cross from Formosa, turned around his opponent and shot to the corner of the net.
Another three minutes passed and Sannat were ahead. Incredible, Formosa crossed the ball and Dione left the ball to Conti who concluded again to the back of the net to make a hat-trick in only eight minutes! On the 29th minute Sandro Azzopardi was shown the second yellow card for a foul. This meant that for the final 15 minutes Sannat had to play with a man less. Zebbug went close to level on the 30th minute. Leandro hit the bar from a direct free kick. Later Zebbug protested for a penalty but the referee turned down their protest. The Lions kept solid at the back with Galea, Cristiano, Pierre, Loeran, Attard, Vella, Ngangue and all the others coordinating to maintain as much possession as possible.
