Zebbug Rovers back in form, back on top! Sunday, 28th March 2004, at the Gozo Stadium, 1.00pm Champions and leaders Nadur Youngsters FC faced title challengers Zebbug Rovers FC, for the second round match of the Easyline GFA 1st Division League. Zebbug found, in the right time, their form of the first round and their strikers scored four times while they kept a clean sheet, although they have to thank their goalie who at important moments of the match made good saves. Nadur disappointed their supporters accompanied by their band as well. The atmosphere was nice at the Gozo Stadium for this direct clash, even if it was a windy and cloudy day. With the three points won by Zebbug, they leapfrogged Nadur and are again the leaders of the league. Referee of the match was Mr Adrian Azzopardi and his assistants were Mr Ingmar Spiteri and Mr Reno Refalo. Zebbug could not have a better start and after only six minutes they took the lead. Azzoppardi passed intelligently to Eboh who scored with a low shot. Nadur reacted immediately and Simoncic went close by a free kick which was saved by Xuereb. Leandro took advantage from indecision by Nadur defense but shot wide. The Brazilian, Leandro, had to be substituted by Sylvan Galea as he was injured. Nadur tried to the level the score and it was Xuereb who kept Zebbug ahead. The goalie saved Simoncic’s shot from outside the box. On the 18th minute Simoncic’s free kick was saved again by Xuereb. Chris Camilleri, two minutes later, fired another shot which went wide. Xuereb saved Camilleri’s header from a cross by Meilaq. Xuereb brilliantly saved Simoncic’s free kick on the 29th minute. Than Zebbug controlled better their opponents and on the 44th minute Joseph Cordina doubled the score for the Rovers by a strong shot from outside the box. Before the break, Xuereb had to save again on Simoncic’s free kick. In the second half, although Nadur tried to narrow the gap, Zebbug were more dangerous on their fast breaks. Nadur had more possession of the ball but concluded very little. Fourteen minutes in the second period Zebbug extended their lead to 3-0. Tuali won a ball outside the box and fired a shot which hit the bar and touched the back of the net. Nadur were demoralized and shocked with this third goal. It was Zebbug who went close again when Cardona passed to Patrick Camilleri who fired the ball but Falzon saved to a corner. Zebbug, after four matches without a win, looked in form once more, and were solid at the back and very sharp upfront. Four minutes from time Zebbug won a free kick two meters outside the box. Tuali scored his second and the fourth goal for Zebbug. Falzon could do nothing as the ball hit the defense and was deviated to the back of the net. Just before the final whistle Falzon had to save again Azzopardi’s free kick.
