Zebbug Rovers FC 4 - 4 Ghajnsielem FC

4-4 thriller between Zebbug and Ghajnsielem

Saturday 6th March, Gozo Stadium, 3.00pm – Easyline 1st Division GFA League. Football supporters at the Gozo Stadium were awarded a spectacular 4-4 thriller between leaders Zebbug and Ghajnsielem.  This was an important point for Ghajnsielem, who join Kercem with 11 points in the third place.  Zebbug were involved in their third consecutive draw and their six point lead on Nadur is now narrowed to just two points with both teams playing ten games.  At the end of the day, the result of a draw is a fair one as no team was merited to lose.  They offered eight goals, one better than the other.  On three occasions Zebbug went ahead but Ghajnsielem always reacted immediately and leveled the score.  Ghajnsielem took the lead in the last minutes of the match which could have won them the match but Zebbug reacted and three minutes for time leveled the score.  Referees of the match were Mr Anton Zammit, and the assistants referees Mr Carmel Attard and Mr Joseph Camilleri.

Zebbug opened the match with clear intentions to go for the three points and just after four minutes from start Mahjoub Tauli with a personal action, where he dribbled three defenders, concluded a low shot to the corner of the net to give his side a one goal lead.  But only six minutes passed and Ghajnsielem reaction resulted in a good goal.  Indahei headed back to Meilaq who concluded by a beautiful shot to level the score. Xuereb saved without any difficulty Scicluna’s shot while on the other end on the 17th minute Leandro’s free kick was cleared by defenders.  On the 21st minute Zebbug went ahead once more.  Tauli’s free kick was concluded by Leandro to give Zebbug a 2-1 lead.  Ghajnsielem’s reaction was immediate but this time the bar kept Imbuenko’s shot away from the net.  On the 36th minute Meilaq’s free kick went over the bar.  Later Jeremy Camilleri should have concluded Indahei’s cross, from an ideal position.

Eight minutes from the break Ghajnsielem leveled the score again.  Mbuenko scored by a direct free kick.  Ghajnsielem were more offensive and Attard went close when he concluded Indahei’s cross.  Xuereb had to save again on Indahei on the 14th minute.  On the other side of the pitch Oliveira, the debutant for Zebbug went close to score. On the 23rd minute Zebbug took the lead again.  Leandro concluded Cardona’s cross.  Ghajnsielem reacted for the third time and leveled the score again seven minutes later.  Xuereb saved by difficulty on Indahei but from the resulting corner executed by Attard, Scicluna passed the ball to Indahei who controlled and fired to the back of the net.  Than, Xuereb was called in action several times to save for Zebbug as they looked confused.  On the 38th minute Ghajnsielem took the lead for the first time in this match.  On a fast break Indahei crossed the ball and Jeremy Camilleri concluded to score the fourt goal for Ghajnsielem.  But the match was not over and this time Zebbug reacted and Tuali’s cross was touched by hand in the box by Mbuenko.  From the penalty spot Tuali leved the score for a final and fair result of 4-4.
