ZEBBUG ROVERS FOOTBALL CLUB

Zebbug Rovers FC 1 - 1 Ghajnsielem FC

Sunday 21st, December, Gozo Stadium, 12.30pm.

Ghajnsielem FC and Zebbug Rovers FC both unbeaten for this season Easyline 1st Division GFA League played against each other on their fourth day of the League.  Favorites Zebbug Rovers missed Mario Azzopardi who was on suspension.  Ghajnsielem should have won the three points if they took their chances but at the end they also risked to loose the game.  Finally the result of a draw satisfied both sides as they are still the only two teams unbeaten of this campaign.

Zebbug opened the game as the most offensive team and early in the game from a corner, Sylvan Galea saw his header well saved by Xuereb.  On the 12th minute Ghajnsielem went close with by Grima but Mercieca saved well.  Three minutes later Ghajnsielem took the lead.  Cordina did not clear and keeper Xuereb partially saved but Jeremy Camilleri was close and concluded to the back of the net.  Zebbug were not playing very well as we saw them lately and their reaction was very poor and confused.  On the 28th minute they went close but John Eboh from a central position did not hit the ball as he wished.  Ghajnsielem could have extended their lead if Xuereb did not brilliantly save on Grima on the 45th minute.  Xuereb was called on action again three minutes later.  Four minutes in the injury time of the first half Zebbug nearly leveled but Sylvan Galea saw his shot and header in the same action saved by Mercieca.

Few seconds in the second half and Tauli nearly equalized for Zebbug but Mercieca saved.  On the other end few minutes later Xuereb had to save again on Grima.  Tauli had another chance on the 9th minute but his shot was cleared by the defense from the goal line.  The Brazilian of Zebbug, Leandro saw his direct free kick hitting the bar to deny him from a goal.  Zebbug were down to 10 men when on the 28th minute Alex Tramboo was shown the red card.  Ghajnsielem should have closed the game on the 37th minute but Xuereb was the protagonist again and saved on Imbueko.  Zebbug insisted to avoid their first defeat and six minutes from time John Eboh’s header from a cross hit the bar and from the rebound Sylvan Galea did not miss.  Few minutes later Joseph Buttigieg of Ghajnsielem was sent to take an early shower and the teams were level both as a result and as players on the pitch.  The final moments were very exciting with both teams looking for the winner but the score did not change again.

With this point Zebbug, although not with maximum points, they extended their lead on Nadur to three points while Ghajnsielem moved up one point behind Nadur with six points.
